Background of the Study
Civic education plays a crucial role in shaping democratic values and encouraging political participation, particularly in areas with low political awareness (Durojaiye & Idris, 2023). In Gombe LGA, Gombe State, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) has been instrumental in promoting civic education through various outreach programs aimed at enhancing political engagement and civic responsibility (Aliyu & Yusuf, 2024). These programs are designed to inform citizens about their rights, the electoral process, and the importance of participating in democratic governance (Sani & Zubairu, 2023). The study investigates how the civic education initiatives implemented by the NOA have influenced political engagement in Gombe LGA, particularly focusing on voter turnout, civic participation, and political awareness.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
While civic education is widely recognized as a tool for enhancing political engagement, there is limited research on its specific impact in Gombe LGA. Although the NOA has carried out various campaigns to encourage political participation, the effectiveness of these programs in fostering long-term political engagement among local residents remains unclear (Bello & Jibril, 2023). This study aims to fill this gap by examining the relationship between civic education programs and political engagement in Gombe LGA, evaluating their success in increasing voter participation and fostering civic responsibility.

1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study is confined to Gombe LGA, Gombe State, and focuses on the NOA’s civic education programs. It does not examine other factors that may affect political engagement, such as media influence or socioeconomic factors.

Civic Education: Programs and activities aimed at educating citizens about their political rights and responsibilities, electoral processes, and the importance of participating in democratic governance.
